Running a plumbing business means staying on top of a long list of recurring compliance tasks. Miss one and you risk fines, invalid insurance, or losing your ability to work legally. Here's what should be on your radar — and how to make sure none of it slips through the cracks.
The recurring tasks every plumber needs to track
Gas Safe registration renewal: Annual. Without it, you cannot legally work on gas appliances. The renewal process takes time, so start early.
CPD (Continuing Professional Development): Gas Safe requires ongoing CPD to maintain your registration. Track when courses are due.
Public liability insurance: Annual renewal. If it lapses, you're personally liable for any damage or injury on a job.
Van insurance and MOT: Your van is your business. An expired MOT or lapsed insurance means you can't get to jobs.
Tool calibration: Gas analysers and other testing equipment need regular calibration to give accurate readings.
Landlord gas safety certificates: If you do landlord work, each property needs annual certification. That's potentially dozens of individual reminders.
How to track all of this without going mad
You could use a spreadsheet. You could set calendar reminders. But you won't check either of them consistently — not when you're knee-deep in a boiler install.
again texts you when each task is due. Set up each compliance task with its schedule — annual, monthly, whatever — and you'll get a text on the day. Reply DONE or SNOOZE. Nothing else to manage.
